A good trench doesn't have to cost $300. Out of 40 listings from 24 US stores, 15 came in under $100, and plenty of those are from names you already know. Here's the whole lineup, cheapest first.

What stood out
- Under $100 from familiar stores: H&M short trench $44.99, LOFT drapey trench $51.95, Gap Factory modern trench $64.99, Express belted midi $73.50 (was $98), Quince weather-proof rain trench $90, Mango midi trench $99.99 (was $150).
- Cheapest of all: $32.99 from a Walmart marketplace seller. Marketplace sellers can be hit or miss, so read the reviews.
- Middle of the pack: Zara has a suede-effect belted trench at $79.90 and several around $119 to $149. Uniqlo's trench is $129.90.
- Top end: Banana Republic's Classic Cotton Trench at $324.99 (was $400), COACH Outlet at $299, J.Crew's New Icon at $298.
- Fabric is a blind spot: only 2 of the 40 listings named a fabric, and both are cotton or a cotton blend priced at $240 and up (Ralph Lauren and Banana Republic). For everything else you'll need to check the store page.
